Marriage records are available from Vital Records from 1919 to present. This record will state that a marriage took place. It will name the two parties, the date of the marriage, and the location of the marriage. To apply to access a marriage certificate, fill out the application provided by the New Jersey Vital Records Website.

Marriage records may be requested from the New Jersey Department of Health OR the County Registrar where the marriage occurred. For genealogical purposes, the marriage must have taken place more than 50 years ago and both parties must be deceased. Otherwise, proof of relationship is required to obtain the record.

There is no 72-hour waiting period for a remarriage; however, you must bring a certified copy of your existing marriage. The marriage license application is valid for six months from the date accepted, unless the Registrar has given prior approval to extend the validity of the application to a maximum of one year.
